8/20/09 - On Sunday we had the first Kids Day that we have held in quite a few years, we had 92
kids and 57 parents present. The kids were the only ones that got to shoot, but the parents had a good time shooting pictures
of their kids as they shot: BB guns, Black Powder rifles, .22 Rifles, and Archery.
It turned out to be a wonderful day for many kids due to the help of the Step Outside Grant and the DNR’s involvement.
The young man on crutches in several of the pictures is Jonathon Niese, a pitcher for the New York Mets who
grew up here in Defiance. Jonathon pulled a hamstring about two weeks ago while making a
play at first base, had surgery on his leg, and will be out the rest of the year. He was back in Defiance to visit his parents
and came out to sign autographs since he is both a shooter and hunter. At the end of they day there were many smiles on
faces as parents and kids left the Fish and Game.
